Traditional Laos Hill Tribe Hand Woven Textile intricately woven using silk thread and natural dyes from the flora and fauna found in their natural environment.
Silk weaving in Laos has been a tradition for hundreds of years, when the communist regime took over the country in 1975 silk weaving came to a halt. The Lao People’s Party thought the weaving of hand woven textiles was unnecessary and a waste of time.
In recent times there has been a revival of this art and the weaving of silk to produce these beautiful materials was and still is today done mainly by women.
Setting up a loom by hand can take up to two weeks for the more complicated patterns after which they may work on one piece for several months.
