Southern Song Dynasty Longquan Celadon Twin Fish Bowl with a beautiful lotus petals radiating from the base and raised twin fish in the bottom of the bowl.
Fish are seen extensively in Chinese Ceramics from the earliest times, it is believed that fish bring abundance in all ways. Two fish is especially auspicious for bringing double abundance of good fortune and marital harmony. These bowls are sometimes referred to as wedding bowls.
Longquan ware is a southern Song ware. The kilns stood in Chekiang, North Fukien and Ch’u-chou. These celadon wares were fired between 1180 – 1280 degree Celsius.
