Pair Antique Burmese Bronze Monks Statues in the Mandalay style seated on pedestals with glass eyes and nice patina. Monks in Burma are highly respected, they provide encouragement and moral guidance to the people of Myanmar (Burma), they enjoy a high level of immunity and freedom compared to the average Myanmar citizen. Most young men in Myanmar become monks for a short period of time in early adulthood, and there are those who enter into the monastic life and become full time monks for their entire life.
For many Myanmar families it is an honour for their son to become a monk, it gives them a certain amount of prestige in the community. Many orphans, some as young as seven years old receive their education in monasteries and will then become a monks themselves, mainly because that is the only life they know and can see no other opportunities. Monks brought up in the monastic life enjoy a higher degree of respect than those who enter into the monastery later in life.
Some special monks are revered by the people so much so, that after they die a life size wax model of the monk is made and displayed in the monastery in which he lived.
