Chinese Tang Style Glazed Terracotta Horse with Thermoluminescence test from Woolongong University, NSW dated approximately 180 years old. Sculptors and artists during the Qing dynasty frequently copied art works, ceramics/porcelain and earthenware objects from past dynasties. This particular horse is a stunning example of this, beautifully executed with some of the traditional coloures seen in many Sancai pieces, nicely detailed saddle and bridle with a long mane falling to one side.
The Tang style horse is a source of fascination to the Chinese and collectors alike and have been replicated and copied many times over throughout the Chinese dynasties.
We had this piece TL tested because it is an impressive and beautiful work of art and showed some of the more typical signs of genuine age related wear.
