Pair Chinese Antique Wood Carved Foo Dogs, also referred to as guardian lions – Circa 1850-1900, made from Camphor wood. Foo dogs also referred to as guardian lions, can be seen at the entrances to Chinese temples, homes, shops and recreational parks. Those in the West who follow feng shui principles often display Foo dogs in their homes to harmonize space and to bring good luck.
Traditionally Chinese Foo dogs or Foo lions are usually placed outside the entrance to buildings according to Feng Shui principals. Feng Shui is a Chinese system of beliefs for harmonizing spaces to promote and bring luck, health and well being, it is closely linked to the practice of Daoism/Taoism.
Placement of these foo dogs or foo lions is important, when looking into the building, usually an entrance, the female with the cub under the left paw is placed on the left and the male, the one with the ball under the right paw is placed on the right hand side of the door.
