Foo dogs sometimes referred to guardian lions are usually placed outside the entrance door to buildings, in accordance with Feng Shui principles and the placement of these guardians is important. Feng Shui is a Chinese system of harmonizing spaces for luck, health and well being and is closely linked to Daoism/Taoism.
When looking into the entrance of a building the female with the cub under the left paw is placed on the left and the male, the one with the ball under the right paw is placed on the right hand side of the door.
