Chinese Antique Vintage Porcelain & Pottery

Chinese Antique Vintage Porcelain & Pottery –  There was a thriving industry in the export of ceramics and pottery from China dating back to the 10th Century.

Hundreds of Chinese merchant ships from these early times up until the 19th century were plying the oceans laden with porcelain, spices, jewels, ivory, and rare wood bound for countries such as Malaysia, Indonesia, Cambodia, Thailand and Vietnam and further afield.

Many of these Chinese junks were much larger than European vessels and are still considered to be the largest wooden ships built up until today.

Much of the porcelain found in Chinese shipwrecks were meant for everyday use and were made in large numbers in the numerous kilns scattered throughout China.

A vast number of these ships were sunk due to bad weather and turbulent seas. Porcelain from these sunken vessels are still being found in the waters of South East Asia up until present times.
