Burmese Wood Carving Nat | Elephants Back. This carving of Burmese Deva Nat is made from a single piece of hardwood or teak. The wood has been intricately carved with a lot of detail and colour depicting a scene of an elephant and mythological Deva Nat figure from the epic Indian love story Ramayana.
Most carvings in Myanmar nowadays tend to be unpainted showing the grain of the wood or covered in gold paint. I am assuming this has a bit of age to it as the art work and paint finish is different to most of the modern pieces we have seen in Burma, it has a nice luminescent sheen with soft rose, blue and grey colours.
