Beautiful Burmese Arakan crowned alabaster Buddha statue with hand gesture in Bhumisparsa mudra, seated on a double lotus pedestal. A five tiered crown with a pointed finial is incised with lotus petal motifs and rests on an incised broad band circling the top section of the head. Traces of orange lacquer remaining. The Burmese refer to this type of Buddha as Ra-Khine Mu-ni Buddha.
Very nice carved floral medallions decorate both front and back depicting royal regalia and jewels worn by the Buddha when confronting the arrogant King Jambhupati. Incised floral medallions decorate both knees. Unusual style shoulder flanges curved upwards.
This Buddha statue is shown with a sweet gentle expression, high arched eyebrows and eyes downcast.
