A 19th Century Bronze Shakyamuni Sukhothai Buddha Statue with a black natural resin lacquer coating covering both the body and face. The Buddha is seen here seated in dhyanasana posture with legs crossed, the right leg over the left leg with the left foot resting on the right thigh, seated on single lotus throne on top of a plain pedestal base with right hand gesture in bhumisparsa mudra, “calling earth to witness”, and the left hand in dhyana mudra, resting on his lap with palm facing upwards.
The plump full face on this statue of the Shakyamuni is representative of the youthful Buddha. The hand gestures on this Sukhothai Buddha statue are very nicely formed elongated fingers with dimples on the back of the hand, which again is representative of his youthfulness.
